To lead effectively, you need to learn how to huddle regularly. This applies even to family.

The ‘huddle’ is where a team:

1) sets its goals;

2) discusses the division of responsibilities;

3) tackles the issues that determine whether it wins or loses.

Even though parents call the game plays from overhead, the family must be taught how to accomplish them on the field. That means working through things, talking through the disagreements, motivating and appreciating each member.

Everyone on the team must learn to listen with an open heart. Try to understand how everyone on the team feels, children included. Yes, if you’re the parent (or even the ate or the kuya), you’re the boss, and yes, you can try to enforce your will if you want to. But sooner or later you’ll have trouble, for resentment grows when people feel left out.

Every member of your team has got to be part of the decision-making process. Involve them!  Ask God to help you look beyond what you want to what’s best for all of you. And don’t fall under the spell of instant gratification. What looks good to you today could be taking you off the path to a better tomorrow. And don’t let ‘outsiders’ into your huddle. Tell them to stay in their own.

Too often their opinions are based on hearsay, self-interest or jealousy. Respect the privacy of your team. Build loyalty. Huddle regularly in prayer. When you do that, everybody wins!

Psalm 139; Lamentations 3:24-26, 40; 2: 19

O Lord, you have searched me & known me! I praise you, for I am fearfully & wonderfully made.

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book! Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed! I awake & I am still with you!

The Lord is my portion, therefore I will have hope in him.

The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.

It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord!

Let us test & examine our ways, & return to the Lord!

Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord!

(Every day of your life has already been written! what will today read in your book? live for him today!)
