The Church is where it’s at!

For a lot of people in our country church is just a place to wet your head, get you wed and pronounce you dead! Do you know anyone like that?

You probably do, but before you clucking your tongue at them just take a minute to look at yourself.

How strong is your passion for your local church?

Are you always talking about what’s wrong with it or are you coming up with ideas to make it better?

Did you know that the church is Jesus’ pet project. Jesus actually said this, ‘I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it’ (see Matt 16:18).

Jay Kessler, who was President of Youth For Christ, says this about the church:

a) It’s the only organization that deals with the issues: like salvation, death, judgment, grace, purpose, heaven and hell

b) it adds value and dignity to human life. We live in a culture that creates a sense of worthlessness. The church counteracts this negative message with God’s love and acceptance

c) it provides a moral and spiritual compass. Society has rejected absolutes but the church stands on the timeless bedrock of God’s Word

d) it’s where you find compassion, healing and community. It’s the place where we’re all equal (see Galatians 3:28 and Colossians 3:11). In the church; God’s Spirit is working to knit us together, providing us with ‘equal access to the Father’ (Ephesians 2:18 TM)

e) it has motivated the most lasting, unselfish, courageous endeavors on earth, such as schools, hospitals, rehab centers and orphanages. But most important is the fact that Jesus Himself ‘is the head…Everything comes from him…So in all things Jesus has first place’ (Colossians 1:18 NCV).
