Kingdom Subjects (1)
Bono from U2 once said: ‘I decided to act like a rockstar and suddenly I had become a rockstar.’ But what did people think of the young Paul Hewson (Bono’s real name) when he was walking around in his now famous sun glasses and ‘acting’ like a rockstar? Maybe they thought he was just a dreamer, but did he care? He’d made a decision, he was going to live like the person God had designed him to be. What have you decided to live like? Jesus is telling his followers to ‘live out your God-created identity’. Yet so often we’re busy wanting to be like other people. We see their gifts, their looks, their opportunities and find ourselves asking God to change us and make us more like them. God does want to change us, but He won’t change you into someone else, He will only change you into the person He created you to be.
Part of being that person is to live like a ‘kingdom subject’; to live like a child of God. ‘Act your age and not your shoe size’ is a saying that comes straight out of the mom’s manual of ‘How to Wind Up Your Kids.’ But lets be honest, 8 of 10 times your mom often has a point. Sometimes we do need to grow up. Jesus says ‘Grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it’. He knows what we are capable of, what our potential is and hates to see us compromise, settle for second best, or fall short. When we call ourselves Christians, it means we represent Jesus. So today decide to represent Jesus by being the person He has created you to be.
