In the flow
Right at the beginning of our Bibles we find many clues about the original destiny God had in mind for the human race. Today’s verse is one of these clues. The Bible says, ‘A river flowed through Eden and watered the garden. From there the river branched out to become four rivers’ (Genesis 2.10 NCV). We can see that God made sure that the place he put his people had a supply of blessing – in this case, water. (Imagine what state the garden would be in without water!) But God didn’t put a pond or a lake in the garden, He put a river there, a river that flowed out to the north, south, east and west. God’s plan was never for the garden to be a secret oasis in a desert world. His plan was, and still is, for blessing to flow out from the place His people are, to the world around them.
So where has God placed you?
And have you found the blessing He has placed for you in that place yet?
Eden was a lot more than the river that ran through it. God placed other blessings there too, like all sorts of fruit trees, like companionship, and of course, God Himself would have a daily stroll in the garden too. Blessings come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. But looking out for blessings for yourself is not what the Christian life is about. The question to ask yourself today is, ‘What can I do to make sure that the blessing I am enjoying is shared out to become a blessing to other people too?’ Think about it!
